  • A Whole Mess O' Goulds
  • They're everywhere, they're everywhere!
  • Meeting the Goulds at Summer Jazz Festival, Mammoth Lakes, California (note wannabe-German bakery!)
  • Danny does magic for Grandpa
  • Shane does magic for Grandma
  • Mammoth Lakes (annual) Jazz Festival - great music wafting even through the Gould's hotel lobby
  • Kings of the Duet
  • Meanwhile, off the keys... Shane beelines straight for the babes!
  • Trip home went by way of the ghost town of Bodie, California - ALWAYS wanted to stop here, never did before. 3 miles up 8mph washboard road. SO worth it!
  • Bodie aerial: It's termed kept in a state of "arrested deterioration" - was huge: own gold mine, TWO newspapers, etc. - just amazing.
  • Looking toward giant (grayish) old gold mine at the rear - there once lived 20,000+ people here!
  • We did find a hotel with very cheap rates here!
  • (and very lumpy mattresses)
  • Then on a little ways north to Mono Lake - another "always wanted to stop" place - finally stopped at both Bodie & Mono on the way back from this Mammoth weekend
  • See those black bands - those are.... FLIES! (millions and millions of little tiny special flies... yum!)
  • The flies moves like waves when you walk through them (was main food source of Indians who used to live here!)
  • (nothing like a posed photo, eh?!)
  • (especially one with a volcanic formation coming out of one's head!)
  • Shane NOT at all impressed, undoubtedly thinking: "What is this confounded fascination with the flies!"
  • Mammoth Lake weekend was also the weekend of the terrible Carson City fire (altho pic NOT from Carson City, still indicative) - almost precluded our leaving, but we did end up getting a window to leave (and return).
